Maya Bhardwaj (she/they) is a queer diasporic Indian-American community organizer, artist, musician, researcher, and consultant. She holds ten years of experience in social movement work across North America, Europe, and Asia, across issues and sectors. Maya is originally from Detroit with roots and community in Bangalore and New York, and has also supported movement-building in London, Bombay, and Mexico City.
They are currently based in Johannesburg, South Africa, in a PhD at the University of Pretoria, where they are researching South Asian diaspora queerness, leftist activism, and solidarity with Black liberation. Maya is in the process of publishing work documenting these practices.
Maya is also engaged in facilitating, training, and consulting in movement-building spaces. They are a member of several QTPOC and BIPOC direct action, art, music, and organizing collectives and community groups in the UK, India, and the US.
